Any full time 91ÌÒÉ« employee can apply for a grant for a project or program. Grants must be approved by the appropriate institutional authorities. It is important to research eligibility for both the funder and the institution prior to grant application submission.

It is recommended to approach the Carrie Mulcaire in the Grants Office for assistance at the early stage of a grant proposal.

A grant is an obligation and commitment by the college district to comply with public grant regulations so due diligence is necessary for all grant

proposals to ensure that appropriate individuals are aware of and approve the grant before it is developed and submitted. Please see the Grant Approval Process for more information on the process, which includes a flow chart, a checklist, and the grant review & approval form.

While the Grants Office will prepare and submit all applications on behalf of the college district, 91ÌÒÉ«

faculty and staff play a critical role in serving as a content area expert. The actual writing is likely to be a

blend of content developed both by 91ÌÒÉ« faculty and staff and Grants Office staff. The Grants Office will

also oversee all final edits to the documents before submission to the funding agency.

Depending upon the grant application, the application needs to be signed by an authorized organizational representation who has signatory approval to put the college district under a financial obligation associated with a grant. A majority of grant applications will be signed by the college president / superintendent but depending on the document that needs to be signed, it could also include the BSO Director or VP of Administrative Services. The Principal Investigator and/or Grant Project Director are never allowed to sign official documents that create a financial obligation for the district. Please work with the Grants Office to submit these application / proposal documents to ensure proper institutional approvals have been obtained well in advance before the application / proposal is due.

California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office - This state agency in California oversees all 116 community colleges and serves as a primary source of grant funding statewide.
